Steve and Laurie Henry formed the LongView Farms General Partnership in 2011. Today the LongView Farm team efficiently produces corn, soybeans, seed corn, and seed beans for our landowners and area seed companies in addition to providing custom spraying and seed corn detasseling services. However, the farming operation really began far before that.
As third generation farmers, Steve and Laurie value the history of Grandfather Long’s agricultural roots. He grew up on a farm in Illinois and farmed in Monona County, Iowa. In 1955 Kenneth and Louise Long moved to our current location in Central Iowa near Nevada in search of more productive ground and more aggressive farming opportunities.
His daughter and son-in law (Frances and Richard Henry) joined them and continued farming until their retirement in 1993.
Steve and Laurie joined the farming operation in 1988 after pursuing other ag-related career paths following graduation from Iowa State University. During the five years after graduation Steve gained valuable financial experience while working as an Ag Loan Officer with Farm Credit Services and Metropolitan in Nebraska. Laurie worked with the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and Chambers of Commerce in Kearney, Nebraska and Ames, Iowa.
The LongView Farm’s team has grown to include highly skilled mechanics and equipment operators that can provide quality and efficient service that is demanded in agriculture today. We have several long-term employees that bring stability to our operation, as well as the innovation and energy that come from our student and recent graduate employees. Together we strive to make a positive difference as we serve our landowners, business partners, team members and community.
Our production practices incorporate conservation stewardship and cutting edge technology in a practical manner, allowing us individually and collectively to be the best we can be. As our name implies, we take the "long view" as we look to be involved in agriculture in the future while maintaining a respect for the heritage that got us where we are today.
